A same-sex flamingo pair are raising a newborn chick together after rare feat

Seven Chilean flamingo chicks have been displayed at a zoo in southwest England, with one being notable for the circumstances of its hatching. Two male flamingos successfully hatched an egg, marking a first for the Paignton Zoo. While same-sex pairings are not uncommon among flamingos, it is still unclear how the couple acquired the egg. The successful hatching emphasizes the birds’ innate parental instincts and highlights the need for conservation efforts for Chilean flamingos in the wild. Other zoos have also observed successful hatching from same-sex pairings among certain bird species.
