California Legislature Approves Bill Proposing Sweeping A.I. Restrictions
·1 min
California lawmakers have approved legislation that would establish new restrictions for artificial intelligence (AI). The bill, known as SB1047, requires large AI systems to undergo safety testing before being released to the public. It also empowers the state’s attorney general to hold AI creators accountable for any significant harm caused by their technologies. While Governor Gavin Newsom has not yet taken a position on the legislation, there is pressure from the tech industry to veto it. If signed into law, California would set the standard for regulating AI technology. The European Union has already implemented its own regulations, such as the A.I. Safety Act.
