Meta's AI image generator really struggles with the concept of interracial couples

Meta’s AI image generator is facing criticism for its inability to create images of interracial couples accurately. When prompted by CNN, the tool consistently produced images of couples from the same racial background instead of interracial couples. It struggled to generate images of Asian individuals with Caucasian partners and also produced inaccurate images when prompted for interracial friendships. Although Meta released the AI image generator in December, The Verge highlighted the issue of racial bias recently. The tool’s response to generating an image of an interracial couple was “This image can’t be generated. Please try something else.” Despite the importance of representing interracial couples, the tool’s limitations demonstrate the challenges faced by generative AI tools concerning race.
